Why do subtitles need frame rate conversion?+
Subtitles are timed against the video's frame rate. If a subtitle file was timed for 23.976fps video but you play it with 25fps video (a common PAL transfer), the video runs about 4% faster and the subtitles drift progressively out of sync. Converting the frame rate rescales all timecodes to match.
What is the difference between frame rate conversion and a sync offset?+
A sync offset shifts every subtitle by the same fixed amount — it fixes constant delay. Frame rate conversion rescales timecodes proportionally — it fixes drift that grows over the video. If subtitles start in sync and drift later, you need frame rate conversion.
How does the conversion work?+
Every timecode is multiplied by (source fps ÷ target fps). Converting 23.976fps subtitles to 25fps makes each cue earlier relative to the video, compensating for the faster playback. Cue order and durations scale identically, so nothing overlaps.
Which frame rates are supported?+
The common set: 23.976 (film/NTSC film), 24 (cinema), 25 (PAL/SECAM), 29.97 (NTSC) and 30 fps. SRT, VTT and ASS formats are supported for input and output.
